Barney Frank’s proposal to legalize online gambling has in the current scenario attracted 5 co-sponsors. The support level is lot better for legalization of online gambling than it was years before.
Rep. Earl Blumenauer of Oregon, Rep. Neil Abercrombie of Hawaii, Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio, Rep. Bill Foster of Illinois, and Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York are the 5 co-sponsors who have joined Barney Frank.
Notably Barney Frank was responsible for the two changes regarding the online gambling done to the legislation; however, the changes were ineffective because of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act which is in force now.
Of the two changes made by Barney Frank, the first one required the postponement of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Act. The second bill of Barney Franks required the approval for online casinos to be able to collect wagers from people in the US; however, it failed, but it is likely that it might materialize with more support.
Frank is working on both sides on this issue. If he is going to continue in this path then they will not probably have any issues in legalizing online gambling very soon.
The committee will be starting on their discussions in this issue; however, it is expected that it will not be any earlier than September for the process to take place. The advantage in the current trend is that previously the UIGEA came in to force with Republican Congress support; however, Democrats have a kind of control this time and several of the Republican guys are going to be favorable because they have changed their attitude towards gambling. However, some of the republicans are worried about the growing support for the legalization of the online gambling process.
Online gambling not being the high priority for several of them out there, there might be a slight delay in the execution; however, Franks states that the bill will be taken up the sooner.
